NLTTA Combined Clubs "10" 5/3/16 L105

In the NLTTA Combined Clubs 10 on Saturday 5th March 2016, three of our riders finished with the
following times, Paul Fleming 21.43, James Noonan 25.05 and Geoff Duteson 26.48
from a very large field of 139 riders.

Weather was fine and dry for most part with a fresh Northerly breeze on the leg to Kirkland Bridge.

Unfortunately James got caught in the late shower for the first 4 miles of the race but that  didn't affect his excellent time for the day. A brilliant ride and only 5 seconds outside the Gold club standard. Well done James and good luck for the forthcoming season.

The event was won by David Allonby of Springfield Financial with a 20.39.

Oh and not forgetting John Ward for putting out the signs and general overall help.

Well done guys. A brilliant showing by the Wheelers this early in the season.

Due to temporary road works on the original course a last minute decision was made and the event went ahead on an amended version of the course, the weather was cool and overcast with a NNE breeze.

The event was won again by James Gullen Pedal Heaven RT in 30mins 40secs.

UCLAN Arena   Youth Criterium Event  31 March 2016

Just a short race report from last Thursdays youth  event at the UCLAN arena. Preston Wheeler James Noonan took on the mighty seven man team of VCUK as well as several riders from Lancaster’s Cog Set team.

Around 14 riders rode the event with VCUK making the breaks and containing anyone from pulling them back. James worked hard to pull back their tag team breaks and the 45 minute criterium was back together until lap 4 when two VCUK riders made the winning break. The rest stayed together for a bunch sprint and James managed a creditable fourth place overall.

Bury Clarion youth races bank holiday Monday, 3 May 2016

A big field of 25 youths contested the youth a event in blustery and wet conditions. Most riders wore longs and capes due to the severity of the weather. But not The Wheelers James Noonan who rode in a skinsuit! He assured me that the shivering and shaking at the start was apparently just to lull the other riders into a false sense of security. The 40 minute race saw Isaac Peterfield from Bolton time trial away with 10 laps to go. The pack refused to work together to chase him down. He won by 30 seconds but James came third overall just getting pipped in the bunch sprint.

Lewis Balyckyi Glasdon Crit Series 5 May 2016
James Noonan wins for the Wheelers

Unlike Monday's race, the event was run in glorious sunshine. A group of four led for much of the race until lap 5 when James and a rider from Lancaster's Cog Set team broke away. The two worked well together and then contested the sprint which James narrowly won to give the wheelers their first youth a win of the year.

distanced the pack and time trialled away. The chasers held him at seven
seconds for several laps before he started to eek out more time. He eventual
won by over a minute.
